Currach Single Malt Irish Whiskey
Atlantic Kombu Seaweed Cask

Using the finest of Irish malted barley, our contemporary single malt whiskey is triple distilled before being aged in 1st fill American oak ex-bourbon barrels and is then finished in unique Atlantic Kombu seaweed charred virgin oak casks. It’s this perfect union of the Irish land and sea that creates a rich multi-layered whiskey with a delicate umami character.

Kombu, a brown seaweed varietal, is located in the extreme lower part of the shore and is harvested during low spring tides throughout the year. Mildly salty and subtly sweet, it is rich in umami, the fifth human taste.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Toffee and raisins with hints of almond, backed by a roasted kombu aroma.

Palate: Arabic roast coffee fused with salted caramel and dark chocolate notes complemented by earthy and lightly smoked seaside and umami undertones. These dark and rich flavours fade to leave a persistent and delicately sweet maritime finish.

46% ABV, Non-Chill Filtered

Currach Single Malt Irish Whiskey
Atlantic Wakame Seaweed Cask

Our second Currach Whiskey is created using Irish Atlantic Wakame seaweed. The same process is used to create both expressions, the only variance being the seaweed used to char the individual casks. The flavours from both products are starkly different yet share the same single malt DNA while having distinctive sweet, savoury and maritime qualities of their own.

Wakame, a green seaweed varietal is rare, seasonal, and considered to be the king of seaweeds. It grows in the extreme lower shore on wave-battered rocks and in rock pools in the winter months and is harvested in mid-spring at its nutritional prime.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Sea salt and rye cracker give way to a caramel sweetness, backed by vegetal and iodine notes.

Palate: Cracked pepper and oak spice, followed by briny yet sweet maritime notes, with tropical fruits, butterscotch and green tea undertones.

Finish: A sweet and salty finish with a touch of liquorice and plenty of umami and maritime character.

46% ABV, Non-Chill Filtered
